Assessment of fitness to work offshore is a specialized process requiring knowledge of general medical problems, occupational medical issues, and the working environment. These assessments must be conducted by an Approved Medical Examiner (AME). Offshore workers are examined prior to deployment and every 2 years thereafter, with more frequent checks if clinically indicated.
